The course duration is four years of full-time study. The course may also be undertaken at a reduced load, provided it is completed within eight years.

This course prepares graduates for teaching in primary, secondary or K–12 settings. It is a practice-oriented course that aims to produce high-quality graduates through a program integrating the latest educational theory. Students continually develop teaching competence throughout the degree with a comprehensive and engaging professional experience program.

Most subjects are delivered in blended mode, incorporating the faculty's new purpose-built classrooms and online learning spaces. Students study innovative teaching methods in the key learning areas and explore contemporary issues and applications, including technology-enhanced learning and learning analytics. Students selecting the primary or secondary major have a choice of sub-majors in which to add depth of study in fields of interest, including highly desirable specialisations such as STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), special education and TESOL.

Career options include primary teaching (kindergarten to year 6) and/or secondary teaching (years 7–12) in English, mathematics, science, mathematics/science, social science (business studies/economics) or PDHPE in a public or private school, locally or internationally.

As a UTS student you will experience the reinvented city campus including several new buildings, learning spaces, the Alumni Green and the newly designed multipurpose sports hall for primary education and secondary education PDHPE subjects.

Education students will also benefit from the new purpose-built teacher education facilities in Building 10 including our state of the art Experimental Learning Studio, Visual Arts room, Science teaching labs and our new Music and Dance studio overlooking the UTS Alumni Green. All located in the city campus with easy access to many transport options.

UTS Education students complete a practical placement every session, or every year. This means you gain 80 days of professional experience before you graduate.

This enables you to apply the knowledge you’ve learnt at uni to the real world.
